<p>The management of the Indian cricket team has resorted to KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and KS Bharat for wicketkeeping responsibilities in all forms as Rishabh Pant continues his rehabilitation.</p>

<p>But Ishan made his Test debut during the West Indies visit earlier this year, and India won the series 1-0 thanks to Bharat warming the benches in both of the games.</p>
<p>The selectors have included Rahul as a wicketkeeper alongside Ishan in the team for the South Africa trip, demonstrating their trust in the senior player to reprise his dual position in Test cricket now that he is completely healthy and available.</p>
<p>Rahul should be used as a batter higher up the order, according to former India bowler Dodda Ganesh, who doesn’t seem to like that he has to shoulder more responsibility.</p>
<p>“KL Rahul in testing as WK? If not opening, he need to be hitting at least three. He is too skilled a batter to be reduced to a 5/6 role in order to take care of the wickets. After the BCCI announced the Test team, Ganesh posted on X (previously Twitter) with the hope that better sense would prevail and KL could play as a pure batter.</p>
<p>For the two Test matches, India has selected a 16-man team, captained by Rohit Sharma. Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested from the white-ball portion of the trip.</p>
<p>Rahul’s most recent Test match took place at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in February of this year. He sustained an injury in the 2023 Indian Premier League that prevented him from playing in the World Test Championship final and the West Indies trip.</p>
