Indian Government Allows Citizens To File FIRs For IT Rule Violations On Social Media

<p>The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) will create a portal where users may report violations of IT rules by social media platforms, according to Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar.</p>
<p>“Meity will assist users to very easily notify it about violation of IT rules and assist them in filing FIRs,” stated the minister.</p>
<p>Following a meeting with social media sites, he was addressing the media. Chandrasekhar said, “As of today, there is zero tolerance for violating IT rules.”</p>
<p>The minister said that a FIR would be launched against the middleman and that the material posting company will be named if they reveal the origins of the content.</p>
<p>According to him, social media companies have seven days to update their terms of service in compliance with IT regulations.</p>
