<p>Pakistan, ranked as the second-best side in the ODI format behind India, entered the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as one of the favorites. After winning back-to-back games against Sri Lanka and the Netherlands, the squad struggled to win four games in a row.</p>
<p>Pakistan was eliminated from the tournament after failing to place in the top four, which sparked harsh criticism from former players and the media, many of whom called for a total overhaul of the nation’s cricket system.</p>

<p>Shan Masood’s position as Test captain may be cemented and the Pakistani team’s confidence might be greatly boosted by winning the series. However, Shaheen Afridi will not be leading the team till they face New Zealand in a five-match Twenty20 International series in mid-January.</p>
